Description

Description

An important moment in both photojournalism and Cuban American identity in the new millennium. The long custody battle-turned-international news story of six-year-old Elián González ended on April 22, 2000, when the US government sent border patrol agents to forcibly remove the child from his uncle’s custody and return him to his father in Cuba. Photographer Alan Díaz won the Pulitzer Prize for capturing this moment and continued working for the Associated Press in Miami’s Little Havana until 2017. This photo is signed with “To Chuck and all the rest of the Library Staff, thank you for a great job!!!” Framed and matted, no glass.
