For the second time, Furnish Green is collaborating with Rhythm Break Cares (RB Cares) in a vintage furniture drive! RB Cares is ​a 501(c)(3) non profit devoted to using partner dance as a form of dance therapy for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Furnish Green will be accepting donated pieces** of furniture between October 20th and October 25th, and the proceeds from the donated pieces will go to the RB Cares “Dance for Dementia Programs.”

Why Rhythm Break Cares? Furnish Green’s owner Nathan Hescock is not solely a vintage furniture enthusiast. He co-founded RBC in 2009 and has since worked to demonstrate the benefits of music, movement and touch through this form of dance therapy.

What is Rhythm Break Cares? The RB Cares mission is to provide the restorative power of music, movement, and touch to older adults with dementia. Since 2009, they have utilized their love and knowledge of dance to improve the quality of life for those with all stages of dementia residing in the community or in a memory care facility. Their dance artists are professionally trained Ballroom and Modern dancers who have completed training to work with older adults with dementia.

Music. Songs that are inspiring or motivating promote recognition of past and present day events and allow people to communicate associations to sounds they hear.

Movement. Using simply-adopted movements promotes activity, exercise, posture, and connection. By making use of the techniques of ballroom dance specifically, we provide support for participants’ bodies and create connection.

Touch. Offering participants a method of social dance provides them with much the needed elements of touch and human interaction. By simply offering a hand, we create an inviting social environment where people feel like members and even distinguished guests.

** If you would like to donate a piece of vintage furniture for the cause, please send an email with images of the piece to furnishgreen@gmail.com ASAP. Please note: we will not be accepting all furniture as we have a limited amount of space. Pieces must be in fair condition needing minimal repairs and must fit with Furnish Green’s aesthetic.

Rhythm Break Cares Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) public charity; all donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Your donation will support their dance programs, research, raising awareness and general administration costs. Your gift will help them to accelerate their mission by ensuring that their dance therapy programs have greater reach, sharing the benefits of dance as therapy with the community and by providing the best care and support to those living with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and their caregivers.
