Sunday Selections: A Fresh Coat of Paint
We’re trying out a new feature that showcases some of the week’s new additions for our weekend shoppers.
With spring around the corner, our minds are on ways to keep a space feeling light and airy without getting rid of everything we own. Incorporate furniture painted in white or light colors for a cozy feel that doesn’t weigh down a room. Whether you prefer a shabby chic white, a brushed-on baby blue, or a warm and solid oatmeal, different colors and styles of painting give each piece a unique character and charm.

Sunday Selections: Retro & Kitsch
We’re trying out a new feature that showcases some of the week’s new additions for our weekend shoppers.
Our inventory at Furnish Green has pieces as old as the mid-1800s, and as new as the 2000s. But there’s a special place in our hearts for those gauchest of styles, “retro” and “kitsch.” We’ve gotten in a number of pieces this week that would fit perfectly in a 70s family room or den. Whether you prefer to mix in whimsical accents sporadically among more serious furniture or you stick to the kooky fun look throughout, we think there’s room for these in any space.

Product Spotlight: Paperbacks Galore!
E-books may be incredibly convenient, but there’s nothing in the world like curling up under a blanket or sitting out on the beach with a paperback book. We’ve recently gotten a wide range of paperbacks from the 50s, 60s, and 70s into the showroom and had to share just a few of the gems on the blog here.
“Men tremble at the sight of Modesty Blaise. Out of lust…and out of fear. She can break a man’s heart — or his neck — with equal ease.”
“With a keen eye for big money and magnificent women, financial wizard Bill Hitchcock manipulates international futures and astronomical fortunes from the most powerful spots of the world — New York, Washington, Saudi Arabia, and finally, the Shah of Iran’s fabulous chalet at St. Moritz.”
“WIFEY is tired of chicken on Wednesdays and sex on Saturdays. This morning the mysterious motorcycle flasher revealed himself to WIFEY and brought her frustrations into rigid focus! WIFEY sees her wildest fantasies taking flight, and WIFEY has an itchy — and uncontrollable — urge to catch up to them!”
So next time you’re looking for something to read on the subway, stop by Furnish Green. We’ve got a wide array of classy and trashy options, fiction and nonfiction, most for only $1 or $2.

At Rhythm Break Cares, the primary goal is to increase the quality of life for individuals living with Dementia and their care partners. Recent estimates suggest that 5.4 million people in America currently have Alzheimer’s Disease and that one in eight older Americans will eventually develop AD. While research has shown that cognitive tasks and physical activity appear to delay the onset and severity of dementia and Alzheimer’s, more recent work has shown that partner dancing not only promotes these healthy activities, but also incorporates the benefits of movement, music, touch, and social engagement.
Rhythm Break Cares provides a unique opportunity for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia to participate in partner dance by hosting dance sessions throughout the New York City region. The instructors are professional dancers who have undergone substantial training to understand how the Alzheimer’s community best responds to and benefits from partner dancing. Their events include on-site sessions at dementia and memory centers, private lessons, tea socials, and instructions for caregivers and caregiver group classes.
Rhythm Break Cares is a 501(c)(3) public charity. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Fun Furniture Fact #30: Charles Pfister for Knoll Loveseat
Sofas and loveseats, with their size and function, have a way of really setting the tone of a space. While a sofa with a loud print or unusual upholstery can make the whole room feel like a party, one with a sleek or tapered frame can provide an element of sophistication. The tasteful Charles Pfister for Knoll Tawny Loveseat has a clean, modern look and still manages to feel warm and cozy.
Charles Pfister (1940-1990) had a distinguished career as both a designer of furnishings and an interior designer. Though he may be best remembered for his innovations in corporate interiors, many of his pieces are timelessly stylish for home use. His design philosophy, in his own words, focused on “opulence without waste.”
This phrase perfectly describes the loveseat that recently arrived in the FG showroom. Part of his 1971 collection for Knoll, it’s all softness and sophistication rolled into a deceptively simple package. The upholstery is a calming golden brown, working both as a neutral tone and offering a bit of color when the light catches it. At a width of five feet, it comfortably seats two and fits well into a New York apartment.
Visit the product page for additional details on the Charles Pfister for Knoll Loveseat or stop by the showroom for a closer look and to experience its cozy embrace!
Product Spotlight: How’d you miss these?
Every weekday new products make their way into the showroom and onto our website, and with an ever-changing inventory of around 800 furniture and home decor items, it’s easy to miss things, no matter how special they may be! So we’re spotlighting some of our favorite pieces that you must have missed!
Rway Provincial Walnut Credenza
We don’t get Provincial-style buffets and credenzas in very often, and this one is a real beauty! A little taller than the standard credenza, it offers great storage and could work well in a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Made by Sheboygan, Wisconsin’s Rway Furniture Company, this is a steal at $571.
Art Deco Red Planet Chandelier
Often, “chandelier” evokes images of Victorian or Gothic ornate hanging lights with sprawling octopus arms. This chandelier is the opposite, with a compact clean silhouette and mysterious Deco forms. Holding five bulbs, it offers significant lighting in a sleek package for $225.
Contemporary Studded Cloth Loveseat
Especially well-suited for a restaurant or retail space, this contemporary high-back loveseat is very chic and welcoming. Any New York lobby, waiting area, or entryway could suit this piece that smartly blends neutral tones with audacious studs. The studs and tufted back mimic aspects of the beloved Chesterfield sofa in a decidedly modern manner. Bring the upscale flair of this loveseat to your home or business for only $407.
Carved Elephant Stone-Top Coffee Table
“The elephant in the room” is an idiom, referring to an obvious problem that is being avoided. “Four elephants in the room” is not an actual idiom, referring to this incredibly cool coffee table. The rich tone of the carved wood base looks incredibly stylish with its marbled stone top. Bold and a little playful, this attention-grabbing coffee table is $388.
Red and Black Asian Canister Lamp
The abstract green figures on the body of this lamp are wonderfully mysterious. Are they plants? Parts of a sea monster? Or just beautiful shapes? There’s no right answer, but this deep red lamp is a captivating addition for an edgy interior, and is $171.
Large Retro Fiberglass Trays Cart
Standing tall at 71″ (nearly six feet), this three-tiered cart is a unique storage option perfect for New Yorkers trying to maximize vertical space. It’s an early model of Flora-Cart, a three tiered rack for plant display used by florists and home gardeners. However, it has endless possible uses in a home or business and is $391.
J.B. Slattery & Bro Porcelain Stove
Seafoam green swirls on a milky porcelain body make this the sweetest stove around! It would look charming in a retail display or delightfully unconventional as a home bar in your living room. Lovable and highly photogenic, it’s a great purchase for $452.
