Furnish Green & The Sketchbook Project
We are happy to announce a very cool collaboration! The Sketchbook Project of Brooklyn Art Library is hosting a pop-up shop, called The Supply Closet, at the Wythe Hotel Sunday, August 24th through Saturday, August 30th. We are very excited to have been able to provide some furniture and accent pieces for the event! Head to the space to peruse a well-curated selection of sketchbooks from the Library’s extensive stock and check out some FG pieces in a unique environment.
So we took a trip to visit the “Speakeasy” style pop-up shop, and it looks great! You can pick up some art supplies while browsing through an assortment of sketchbooks. And if you’re feeling creative, purchase your own sketchbook, fill it with ideas, and submit it to have a permanent home in the Brooklyn Art Library! The Sketchbook Project has realized a truly unique concept, so head to The Supply Shop at the Wythe Hotel and learn a bit about what they do and upcoming events they’ll be hosting.
We’ve moved.
As you may already know, our move is complete! We have transitioned into our new space on the 3rd floor (room 309), and we’re feeling pretty good about it. You’ll have to come on in and check out the fresh look and setup! Although all of the furniture has made its way downstairs, please bear with us while each piece finds its rightful home on the showroom floor.
Also, don’t miss our Grand Reopening Party on September 18th! It’s going to be a blast!
Thanks for the shout out!

Dwellings Issue III: The Financial District
We recently took a jaunt to the Financial District to visit the home of a Furnish Green regular. A neighborhood that is comprised of a blaring contrast between residential and fast-paced finance, the Financial District is rich with beautiful buildings that signal the history of the iconic neighborhood. Daryl’s building boasts its own bit of history with the ground floor being occupied by the first fine dining restaurant established in America, Delmonico’s. Walking past Delmonico’s to enter the building, we travelled up a few floors to Daryl’s apartment. Upon entering we were immediately taken with the style and class of the space.
Daryl has been shopping with Furnish Green for less than a year, but he quickly built a reputation amongst our staff as someone who repeatedly left the store with striking pieces. While he claims that he is by no means a furniture connoisseur, we took notice of his knack for acquiring some of the store’s favorite pieces. A mix of strong Mid Century and Danish Modern furniture, and slightly more playful yet stylish accents, we were excited to see how Daryl had implemented the cool pieces he had stockpiled from Furnish Green.
When asked which, among the many, was his favorite purchased piece, he instinctively points to the Floating Mid Century Danish Modern Desk in the middle of the room. The piece has a commanding presence and looks beautiful in the space.
Another focal piece of the apartment is the Globe Wernicke Co. Oak Barrister Bookcase, with the classic rustic appeal of dark oak wood, glass doors and industrial metal accents. While his place is well-lit and open with lots of large windows it may seem that light fixtures would be an afterthought. But Daryl’s zeal for visually commanding lamps result in an assemblage of fun pieces that remain important in the room, even when the lights are not in use. The Brass and Wood Tension lamp and Hanging Globe Swag Lamps really add some Mid Century ambience.
Daryl continues to flesh out the details of the decor. Keeping a close eye on the site allows him to land the perfect accent pieces like these Mid Century Ram Bookends (featured below) which were a definite favorite of the Furnish Green Team.
Big thanks to Daryl for the tour! Here are just a few more photos!

We love to see our pieces in action, and we hope you do too! So stay tuned for future Dwellings Features, and let us know if you’d like us to feature your space!

Report Confirms No Need To Make New Chairs For The Time Being
WASHINGTON—A report released Tuesday by a team of researchers at the Brookings Institution has confirmed that the United States currently has enough chairs and there is no urgent need to produce new ones
Representing a five-year inquiry into the nation’s seating availability and quality, the 85-page study of American homes, offices, dining establishments, public spaces, and patios has determined that, for now, the nation has “plenty” of chairs and can get by just fine with the chairs it already possesses.
“Through rigorous observation and analysis, we have verified that there is absolutely no shortage of chairs at this time,” said the report’s lead author, Simon Clouse, noting that in addition to wooden chairs and plastic chairs, there are also enough cushy, upholstered chairs. “According to our findings, many chairs are presently unoccupied, and there is no reason people cannot sit in these empty chairs instead of purchasing new ones.
“Even if every person decided to sit down at the exact same time, there would still be an adequate number of chairs to go around,” Clouse added. “As far as chairs go, we’re basically set.”
According to the report, chair production can cease entirely with no negative consequences for American consumers, as the many good chairs now on store shelves and available at garage sales are sufficient to satisfy the country’s seating requirements for the immediate future. Though some citizens reportedly believe they require more chairs, the study found that most had not taken into full consideration the number of armchairs, folding chairs, Adirondack chairs, leather chairs, swivel chairs, and rocking chairs already in existence, not to mention all the beanbag chairs, wingback chairs, director’s chairs, recliners, papasan chairs, and deck chairs.
The report also stated that when people find themselves in a place where there are not enough chairs to meet their needs, there are, in fact, usually one or two just over in the next room.
“It’s important to keep in mind that our data doesn’t even take into account couches, benches, or stools,” said Clouse, adding that the report likewise does not factor in nontraditional sitting surfaces such as tall curbs, ottomans, large rocks, edges of desks or tables, or pillows on the floor. “Throw all those into the mix, and we’re talking about a whole lot of places to sit down.”
Chair manufacturers have reportedly taken exception to the report, pointing out that almost everywhere you look, people are standing up, and if there were really enough chairs, those people would be sitting down. Industry officials also argue that sometimes chairs break, which can cause their occupants to tumble backward or crash down onto the floor, risking injury and embarrassment. Furthermore, they note, old chairs can get wobbly
However, the Brookings research team maintains that most broken chairs can be fixed—meaning there is no need to replace them—and that when a chair wobbles, simply placing a coaster or small book beneath the problematic leg can usually restore its balance.
Researchers did concede, though, that there are still some instances when it might be within reason to acquire a brand-new chair.
“Chairs that are covered in fabric can sometimes become unsightly or even scuzzy if one frequently spills food and beverages onto them or if one owns pets,” said Clouse, though he remarked that in such a situation, one could instead opt to reupholster the chair or lay a blanket over the mess, in essence creating an entirely new and fresh seating surface for the chair and obviating the need to replace it. “And there may also be times when a person just wants to get a comfier chair. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Will we need more chairs eventually?” he continued. “I don’t doubt it. But for now, we’re definitely okay.”
The report’s authors went on to explain that while it’s true there sometimes aren’t enough chairs to accommodate a group at a restaurant, you can usually ask to borrow one from a table that has extras and it’s no problem at all.

A Trip to Hairroin Salon NYC
About a month ago, Janine Jarman, owner of Hairroin Salon in LA, came to Furnish Green for help in furnishing her new NYC salon in Herald Square. Janine has been the designer for both salon spaces with a preference for vintage furniture stemming from her parents’ work in the consignment furniture industry. Inn her search for reasonably priced vintage accent pieces, she did not expect to find Furnish Green, a vintage furniture store that is only three blocks away from the new salon. Convenient (and dangerous) as she explains it will only feed her addiction to vintage items and oddities.
The LA salon inhabits a space owned by Urban Outfitters, and when Urban decided to open their new Lifestyle Center store in Herald Square, NYC, they brought Janine and Hairroin Salon on board. The new space, once occupied by Conway, is now home to Urban Outfitters and Hairroin Salon, sharing the space with Intelligentsia Coffee and Amoeba Music.
The new Hairroin Salon is recently opened and is looking truly awesome with some Furnish Green pieces serving as fun accents (see them in action below)! It is large, open and industrial with exposed piping and raw unfinished walls. Janine wanted the space to have a similar aesthetic to that of her LA salon, while bringing in some new elements to differentiate the two locations. For example: Janine discussed her love for taxidermy (the stranger the better), and while both locations have it on display, LA features horned taxidermy and NYC features winged creatures like birds and butterflies. Acknowledging that taxidermy, to some, may seem a bit strange, she describes how the colors and textures seen in the butterflies and bird feathers serve as inspiration for the stylists.
She needed Hairroin to look like a hair salon while not wanting it to feel too much like the “typical” hair salon. Janine explains that they are artists, after all, and need a space that will be conducive to creativity. And she’s definitely achieved her goal, the place looks great! At Hairroin you will receive a unique salon experience in a unique space, where attention to detail is seen not only in each hair style, but also from floor to ceiling! Head to their Site to learn more about what they do.
