Decorating With Color

It is easy to get overwhelmed, so here is a quick guide to help you approach the difficult task of deciding what colors to use in your newly decorated space.
Red – Resonant and stimulating. Using the color red increases heart rate and appetite. It may even increase your level of passion. There is an old interior decorating secret that says to put at least one red item in every room of the house.

Green – Calm and relaxing. The color green stimulates your senses and makes you feel like you’re in nature. It is the most healing hue. A good tip is to use multiple shades of green in the same space.

Blue – Cool and comforting. Blue works the exact opposite way of red. Use it to lower the heart rate and to decrease your appetite. It can help create a space for work and meditation. It is the best color to use in a room that receives a lot of sunlight that needs to be cooled down.

Purple – Luxurious and expensive. Purple has a long reputation for symbolizing royalty and power. The bluer shades of purple have a more calming effect that brings a sense of mystery to a room, while the redder shades attract a lot more attention and dominate a space.

Furnish Green Featured in Thrillist Article
Furnish Green was recently mentioned in an article written by Melanie Lieberman in Thrillist! The article highlights the benefits of buying inexpensive vintage pieces rather than cheap and disposable.
“… Furnish Green (a Manhattan showroom that brings in around 15 new antique items every week) can help you find high-quality second-hand furniture like a legitimate Danish modern teak storage shelf for less than $250.”

Fun Furniture Fact #21: Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller Dresser
The busy life of a New Yorker means making lots of decisions prior to even stepping out your front door. The decision of what to wear carries obvious importance, and therefore, choosing the right dresser as the proper home for our clothing deserves some serious consideration.
We recently got in this mighty fine 5-drawer dresser designed by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller; it features brass drawer pulls, flared legs and a two-tone body with a light wood front. The drawers pull out smoothly and the top drawer contains a center divider; a big plus for the meticulous organizer.
(To read more about wear and condition, please refer to the product page)
Founded in 1905, Herman Miller, an American-based furniture production company, soared to fame in the 1940s with collaborations involving many talented designers such as Isamu Noguchi, George Nelson, and Ray and Charles Eames. The company produced pieces that would later become definitive examples of industrial design. By the middle of the 20th century, Herman Miller was synonymous with “Modern” furniture.
In 1931, Gilbert Rohde, considered a vivacious modernist himself, attracted the interest of Herman Miller and he soon began designing for the company. His designs combine the form and ornamentation reminiscent of the Art Deco style with the rationalism from Bauhaus design, while still maintaining a sense of simplicity.
While Rohde designed for several other furniture manufacturers like Heywood Wakefield, Widdicomb Company, and the Troy Sunshade Company, his work for Herman Miller remains his best work and is considered some of the best work of the period.

Website Update: Shop by Dimensions
Furnish Green is pleased to announce a new and efficient way to shop our vintage items!
As of today, our website now allows shoppers to browse and purchase inventory by searching via dimension sizes and tags! This means no longer will you fall in love with a sweet vintage find to then notice it will not fit in that reserved spot or up a walk-way. Furnishing your home or office can certainly be overwhelming, and as we are more than happy to problem-solve with you during your showroom visit, this new website update will be the first step to finding that perfect piece.
Things you should know:
We measure the Width, Depth, and Height of every piece in inches and if there are half sizes it will be in the form of .25, .5, .75.
How to search goes as follows:
Enter your desired dimension in the Search Bar at the top right of each site page.
For example:
19.5 W/D/H or 19.5 will work. Please note: there must be a space in between the number and letter.
Also, you may search by room, style, color or material!
Ex: bedroom, living room, mid century, danish modern, atomic, painted, metal, etc.
We hope this is helpful! Happy shopping from the peeps at Furnish Green!
