A Trip to Hairroin Salon NYC
About a month ago, Janine Jarman, owner of Hairroin Salon in LA, came to Furnish Green for help in furnishing her new NYC salon in Herald Square. Janine has been the designer for both salon spaces with a preference for vintage furniture stemming from her parents’ work in the consignment furniture industry. Inn her search for reasonably priced vintage accent pieces, she did not expect to find Furnish Green, a vintage furniture store that is only three blocks away from the new salon. Convenient (and dangerous) as she explains it will only feed her addiction to vintage items and oddities.
The LA salon inhabits a space owned by Urban Outfitters, and when Urban decided to open their new Lifestyle Center store in Herald Square, NYC, they brought Janine and Hairroin Salon on board. The new space, once occupied by Conway, is now home to Urban Outfitters and Hairroin Salon, sharing the space with Intelligentsia Coffee and Amoeba Music.
The new Hairroin Salon is recently opened and is looking truly awesome with some Furnish Green pieces serving as fun accents (see them in action below)! It is large, open and industrial with exposed piping and raw unfinished walls. Janine wanted the space to have a similar aesthetic to that of her LA salon, while bringing in some new elements to differentiate the two locations. For example: Janine discussed her love for taxidermy (the stranger the better), and while both locations have it on display, LA features horned taxidermy and NYC features winged creatures like birds and butterflies. Acknowledging that taxidermy, to some, may seem a bit strange, she describes how the colors and textures seen in the butterflies and bird feathers serve as inspiration for the stylists.
She needed Hairroin to look like a hair salon while not wanting it to feel too much like the “typical” hair salon. Janine explains that they are artists, after all, and need a space that will be conducive to creativity. And she’s definitely achieved her goal, the place looks great! At Hairroin you will receive a unique salon experience in a unique space, where attention to detail is seen not only in each hair style, but also from floor to ceiling!
